Position Overview

The Lending Program Specialist will report directly to the Executive Director and collaborate closely with LISC teams to enhance transformative impact through capital deployment and development capacity building. We are looking for a seasoned professional committed to community strengthening through strategic lending, technical support, and project oversight. This role involves managing the lending pipeline and initiatives aimed at building the capacity of emerging developers. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of three years of experience in community development and investment strategy formulation, including technical assistance and capital deployment in underserved areas. A strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Lending and Project Support (60%)

In collaboration with the Executive Director and project investment colleagues, the Lending Program Specialist will:
  • Formulate a strategic plan to support and oversee the growth of lending and real estate transactions.
  • Build and manage a diverse project pipeline across various asset classes, including affordable housing and community facilities.
  • Activate local funding sources and connect projects to national financing opportunities.
  • Identify and cultivate new financing partnerships to enhance capital access.
  • Work with community partners to evaluate project feasibility and develop effective financing strategies.
  • Source and underwrite projects, conducting thorough due diligence and financial analysis.
  • Coordinate with national staff to present loan proposals and assist with closing processes.
  • Support fundraising initiatives for program development.
Emerging Developer Capacity Building (30%)

Lead the execution of the Developer Capacity Building Initiative, which includes:
  • Designing tailored experiences for developers, integrating sustainable resources.
  • Facilitating peer-to-peer meetings within the housing ecosystem.
  • Providing technical assistance in financing and navigating government approvals.
  • Building relationships with mentors and project advocates.
Additional Duties (10%)
  • Collaborate with the broader LISC team and local partners on high-impact strategic initiatives.
  • Prepare reports for advisory boards and represent LISC at external events.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, public policy, community development, or a related field; a master's degree is a plus.
  • A minimum of five years of progressive experience in community development and lending.
  • Familiarity with real estate markets and financing programs.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of underwriting issues in real estate development.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in community work.
  • Excellent communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid environment.
