Job Summary

The Behavioral Tech II position plays a vital role in the efficient functioning of assigned units. As a primary consumer contact, this role has a significant influence on consumer treatment and progress. Behavioral Techs are professional staff members responsible for supervision and assistance in daily living skills, ensuring consumer safety and well-being, as well as maintaining a clean and secure therapeutic environment in collaboration with various disciplines, particularly nursing staff.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Assist in the admission process, including vital sign taking, bathing, and orienting consumers to the unit.
  • Participate in individual needs assessment, treatment plan formulation, and implementation.
  • Attend treatment team meetings and provide information on consumer adjustment.
  • Learn and apply mental health nursing principles to the daily routine.
  • Observe consumers closely, report pertinent observations, and communicate changes to the Charge/Unit Nurse.
  • Encourage consumer interaction and participation in social activities.
  • Assist in organizing and executing consumer group and recreational activities.
  • Take vital signs and report significant changes or elevations.
  • Encourage consumers to respect unit rules and regulations and provide physical and emotional support as needed.
  • Assist in caring for consumers requiring more than routine observation and care.
  • Make regular checks on consumers confined to bed or in seclusion or restraints.
  • Assist in managing impulsive, violent, or uncooperative consumers.
  • Check for unusual sounds, report suspicious behavior, and search consumer rooms for hazardous objects or medications.
  • Assist with discharge procedures, including preparing consumers for departure and gathering belongings.
  • Escort consumers to areas outside the unit as necessary.
  • Monitor and prepare meals, ensuring compliance with prescribed diets.
  • Ensure proper documentation is completed in the TIER system.
  • Monitor self-administration of medication and report side effects to supervisors.
  • Monitor supply needs and notify staff when supplies are low.
  • Run errands and perform other tasks as requested by leadership.
  • Participate in in-service training programs and complete required training within six months of hire and annually.

Education and Experience

The Behavioral Tech II must have:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of one year's experience in a substance abuse and mental health setting.
  • Desirable experience working with psychiatric or co-occurring consumers of all ages.
Training and Development

The Behavioral Tech II must complete all requirements according to the Individual Training Plan within the first six months of hire and annually.
