Job Summary

Carnegie Mellon University's department of Facilities Management is seeking a skilled Laborer I to support our team in maintaining the university's facilities.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or structural trades, with a minimum of two years of full-time experience. Formal training in electrical/mechanical/structural systems is preferred.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position based in Pittsburgh, PA, requiring flexibility in working various shifts, overtime, and call-out work. The successful candidate will be a member of, or agree to join, Local #95 International Union of Operating Engineers bargaining unit.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct assistance to craftspersons in various crafts, including plumbers, pipefitters, A/C mechanics, carpenters, electricians, painters, and masons.
  • Operate on and off-road utility vehicles and light trucks in support of assigned work.
  • Requisition job parts and supplies.
  • Work independently and make appropriate decisions as to when additional help is needed to correct issues.
  • Available to work first, second, or third shift.

Requirements:

  • Two (2) years of full-time experience relevant to the role, with one year in journey-level experience in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or structural trades.
  • Formal training in electrical/mechanical/structural systems preferred.
  • PA Child Protection Clearances (Act 153).
