Position Overview
A Surgical Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) collaborates closely with the surgical team in the operating room, delivering essential patient care during surgical procedures.
To qualify as a first assistant, nurses must possess substantial surgical experience and undergo specialized training. Many pursue certification in perioperative nursing or attain credentials as advanced practice nurses.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist surgeons with comprehensive patient management.
- Deliver surgical patient care by evaluating, planning, and executing nursing interventions throughout the surgical process.
- Provide education to patients regarding pre-operative and post-operative care.
- Monitor the physical and emotional well-being of patients.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in the operating room.
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications are mandatory.
- Possession of a valid state nursing license.
- Experience in travel nursing is advantageous.
- Exhibit the highest standards of professionalism in interactions with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare staff.
