Position Overview

Position Title: Culinary Specialist and Cafe Barista
Position Type: Temporary Part-Time
Work Location: Campus Cafeteria
Hours: Up to 29 hours per week

Qualifications

Preferred: ServSafe Management Certification or equivalent certification, or the willingness to obtain certification. Experience as a barista is advantageous, though a readiness to learn how to operate a cappuccino machine is acceptable.

Compensation

Hourly Rate: $11.56

Role Summary

The incumbent will be responsible for preparing, cooking, and serving substantial quantities of food within a campus dining facility.

Key Responsibilities

The incumbent may perform any combination of the following duties:

  1. Prepare food items for cooking and serve meals to patrons.
  2. Conduct routine cooking tasks such as baking, boiling, broiling, or frying for students and other customers.
  3. Manage inventory, stock, and rotate food and related serving items.
  4. Clean and sanitize utensils and equipment used in food preparation, ensuring proper storage.
  5. Store leftover food in appropriate containers, labeling with the name and date.
  6. Assist in purchasing and planning menu items as directed by the supervisor.
  7. Perform additional related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Understanding of materials, methods, and equipment utilized in large-scale food preparation. Familiarity with cleaning and sanitizing protocols applicable to large-scale food service operations. Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures. Capability to prepare complete meals with minimal supervision. Proficiency in baking and creating a variety of pastries and desserts on a large scale.

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or G.E.D. along with one year of relevant experience in cooking or short-order preparation within a food service environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
