About the Role

The Animal Hospital of Largo is a leading animal veterinary care facility seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Kennel Assistant to join our team. As a Kennel Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing a clean, efficient, and healthy environment for the animals being treated or boarded at the hospital.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a Clean and Safe Environment: Ensure the hospital, including kennel area, runs, treatment area, and outside grounds, are clean and well-maintained.
  • Animal Care and Feeding: Feed hospitalized animals and boarders, and monitor their behavior and habits.
  • Monitor and Record Animal Information: Record important information about the animals' conditions, behavior, and habits.
  • Animal Walking and Exercise: Walk animals three times a day to ensure their physical and mental well-being.
  • Notify Veterinary Team: Notify the Doctor or a Veterinary Technician/Assistant of unusual medical or behavioral problems.
  • Cleanliness and Organization: Clean treatment, exam, surgery, and lab areas daily, and maintain laundry throughout the day.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor and maintain the kennel inventory, including food, cleaning supplies, laundry supplies, etc.
  • Assist Veterinary Team: Assist the Doctor and Veterinary Assistant with restraint and treatment of animals.
Requirements
  • Education: High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Schedule: Flexible schedule, including some weekend/holiday shifts.
  • Computer Skills: Must have computer skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Communication Skills: Must possess strong communication skills, good judgment, and be able to manage stressful situations.
  • Physical and Mental Capacity: Must have the physical and mental capacity to perform in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
  • Lifting Ability: Must be able to lift 50+ lbs.
  • Previous Experience: Previous experience as a kennel assistant is preferred.
