Job Summary:

The Forensic Nurse Examiner PRN is a critical role within JPS Health Network, responsible for delivering high-quality care to patients who have experienced sexual abuse. This position requires a strong background in forensic nursing, with the ability to provide compassionate and expert care in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Collaborate with the ED Team Lead to facilitate services and manage flow throughout the designated area of the ED.
  2. Coordinate care by assisting patients with referrals for medical, psychological, advocacy, and legal follow-up.
  3. Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to provide comprehensive care and education to patients.
  4. Assess for mandatory reporting status and report when appropriate.
  5. Complete and document medical legal histories precisely and accurately in a timely manner.
  6. Utilize the nursing process to perform physical evaluations, collect evidence, and photograph injuries while maintaining chain of custody.
  7. Deliver nursing care to assigned patients, including education and discharge planning.
  8. Interpret and evaluate diagnostic tests to assist the attending provider in identifying the proper plan of care.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience.
  • State of Texas or International Forensic Nurse approved training course or certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification within 6 months of hire.
  • CA-SANE Texas OAG Certification and/or SANE-A International Association of Forensic Nurse Certification within 6 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • ER, Trauma, or Women's Health nursing experience.
  • Forensic program experience.
  • Experience practicing as a SANE in the care of the sexually abused patient.
