Position Title: Transportation Area Manager, Midwest Operations

Role Summary:

We are on the lookout for a dynamic and skilled Transportation Manager to bolster our transportation initiatives. In this capacity, you will oversee the daily operations of three key transportation services in the Midwest region, all coordinated from our central hub. Your responsibilities will include managing dedicated freight routes, coordinating package pick-ups and deliveries with our final mile partners, and facilitating freight movements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Midwest Dedicated Freight Operations:
    • Plan and optimize delivery routes for drivers to ensure efficient inventory and package distribution.
    • Assess necessary stops and maximize truck utilization to meet delivery requirements.
    • Monitor loading and unloading times to enhance fleet efficiency and reduce delivery costs.
    • Ensure optimal cubic utilization of truck space based on assigned routes and customer needs.
    • Prepare detailed loading and driver sheets to communicate daily routes effectively.
    • Identify and assign backhaul orders to the appropriate drivers to maximize efficiency.
    • Review and adjust previous day's routes to improve delivery performance.
    • Compile route-specific reports to track key metrics such as volume, weight, and driver hours.
  • Manage Final Mile Operations:
    • Monitor forecasted volumes to ensure adequate carrier capacity for daily operations.
    • Utilize dedicated freight resources to manage local final mile deliveries.
    • Ensure timely pick-ups and drop-offs to meet critical delivery schedules.
    • Track carrier performance and address any issues with management.
  • Enhance ShipBob Freight Performance:
    • Focus on improving key performance indicators related to on-time pickups and deliveries.
    • Investigate service disruptions and collaborate with partners to resolve issues.
    • Review shipments to ensure optimal load planning based on critical attributes.
    • Monitor carrier compliance and make necessary adjustments to our carrier partnerships.
    • Address freight inquiries from internal teams and clients promptly.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned to support operational excellence.

Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of experience in transportation management, with knowledge of final mile logistics.
  • 2-3 years of experience in warehouse operations, preferably in fulfillment.
  • Understanding of loading techniques and space utilization strategies.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail and effective communication skills.
  • Motivated and eager to learn, with a commitment to supporting small businesses.
  • Ability to cultivate relationships with stakeholders and carrier partners.
  • Willingness to adapt to the demands of the role, including potential evening and weekend shifts.
