Position Overview:
The Practical Nursing Specialist, under the guidance of a registered nurse, advanced practice clinician, or physician, delivers patient-centered, specialized, evidence-based nursing care throughout the care continuum. This role is pivotal in achieving departmental goals by ensuring the provision of compassionate and safe care within the scope defined by the Wisconsin Board of Nursing and ThedaCare policies. Collaborating with the care team, the Practical Nursing Specialist is accountable for patient outcomes that align with the high-quality care standards upheld by ThedaCare. This position promotes a culture of innovation and is committed to professional growth and development.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Execute delegated tasks utilizing evidence-based practices to assess patients' physical conditions and nursing needs, assisting in the implementation of care plans.

2. Collaborate with the interprofessional team to address patient care needs, ensuring the highest quality of care and clinical outcomes.

3. Exhibit clinical proficiency in the assigned specialty, performing all licensed practical nurse functions that are age-appropriate, developmentally sensitive, and culturally competent.

4. Identify opportunities to enhance the patient care experience, streamline processes, and reduce costs while promoting quality to improve satisfaction for patients, families, and team members.

5. Foster a professional environment that encourages mentorship, engagement, and the retention of skilled clinicians.

6. Maintain positive relationships with physicians and other team members, collaborating to resolve issues and enhance patient care.

7. Anticipate and proactively manage risks to avert crises.

8. Respond effectively in life-threatening emergencies, aligning demands with available resources during critical situations.

Qualifications:

• Current Wisconsin LPN Licensure

• American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS).

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to perform physical activities such as standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to fifty (50) pounds without assistance.

• Job involves exposure to bloodborne pathogens while performing duties.

Work Environment:

• Frequent exposure to sharp instruments and occasional exposure to mechanical parts, fumes, and hazardous materials.

• May encounter high noise levels and be required to stand or walk for extended periods.

• Responsible for transporting patients and equipment while adhering to proper safety protocols.

• Potential exposure to communicable diseases and pharmacological agents.

• Occasional interaction with aggressive patients.
