Job Summary:

The Medical Support Assistant plays a vital role in the ambulatory setting, providing direct patient care and supporting healthcare providers in delivering high-quality patient care. This position requires a strong ability to interact professionally with patients and healthcare practitioners, while maintaining a calm and composed demeanor in challenging situations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provides direct patient care by taking vitals, patient history, referrals, and patient phone messages under direct supervision of the provider and/or clinical supervisor.
• Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate based on the level of patient contact this position requires.
• Contributes to the assessment/re-assessment of patients, monitoring and documenting patient status, and managing large call volumes while maintaining excellent telephone etiquette.
• Organizes workflow to meet patient needs in a timely manner, retrieves and transports instruments and supplies, and maintains a clean and organized work environment.
• May be exposed to hazardous risks, including potential for exposure to infections and communicable diseases, blood and body fluids, electrical equipment, and chemicals, and must follow standard precautions.
• Responsible for stocking exam rooms, taking inventory, and ordering supplies, making scheduling arrangements with other healthcare professionals and facilities, and assisting with procedures, including maintaining sterile fields and specimen labeling when necessary.
• Gathers and documents information about patient condition, including lab values, pain levels, patient education needs, nutritional status, and potential complications, and performs cleaning, sterilization, and/or high-level disinfection of scopes, probes, instruments, and equipment according to manufacturer instructions for use.

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 0-3 years of experience in Patient Care as a Medical Assistant or similar patient care role preferred.
• Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.
• Knowledge of basic medical terminology, ability to interact professionally with healthcare practitioners and patients, and ability to effectively communicate information.
• Ability to observe and obtain information from all relevant sources, work as a member of a team, and maintain composure even in difficult situations.
• Must be detail-oriented and able to complete work tasks, and able to be understanding and sensitive to the needs of others.
