Crisis Intervention Counselor Role

At WellSpan Health, we are seeking a skilled Crisis Intervention Counselor to join our team. As a Crisis Intervention Counselor, you will play a vital role in providing crisis intervention services to individuals in need. Your expertise will be instrumental in assessing crisis situations, providing stabilization, and referring clients to necessary services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond promptly and appropriately to all calls.
  • Assess patient's immediate needs.
  • Stabilize patient using established crisis intervention techniques.
  • Utilize suicide precaution check list as appropriate.
  • Refer to appropriate agency or service.
  • Follow up on patient condition as outlined in policy.
  • Respond to emergency mental health problems in the community.
  • Apply established guidelines of the Mental Health Act.
  • Discharge responsibilities of a Mental Health Delegate (including attending hearings as necessary).
  • Facilitate admission to a psychiatric facility.
  • Maintain PCPC certification and other BDAP required annual training.
  • Remain knowledgeable of all licensed county D&A services.
  • Arrange detox services as needed.
  • Provide intake for county D&A funded services.
  • Utilize knowledge of community services.
  • Provide information to inquiries.
  • Remain updated to available community resources.
  • Assess the emergency of the need.
  • Arrange provision of need following policies and procedures.
  • Notify CAP or LCCM of authorized provisions following policies and procedures.
  • Follow policies and procedures regarding Intensive Case Management patients.
  • Follow policies and procedures regarding Family Focus patients.
  • Foster cooperation between crisis counselors and MH/MR case managers (this would include follow-up calls to case managers regarding contact with their patients).
  • Remain aware of mandated reporter status regarding child abuse.
  • Utilize Childline as appropriate.
  • Foster cooperation between crisis counselors and C&Y case managers.
  • Report suspected Elder Abuse situations to AAA.
  • Foster cooperation between crisis counselors and AAA case managers.
  • Document according to department policy

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • 2 years Mental health or crisis intervention experience with unrelated bachelor's degree Required and
  • Psychology, Counseling, Social Work or related field of study Required

Driver's License Statement:
Must possess a valid driver's license in the current state of residence. Driving record must meet requirements established by WellSpan Risk Management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Analytical skills
  • Visual ability to observe patient behavior and to prepare documentation and written materials
  • Physical prowess in order to assist patients

  • Stamina to work for long time spans
  • Knowledge of and ability in the care and handling of patients in a specific age group
  • Knowledge of basic Emergency Room treatment procedures, psychological medications, human behavior, treatment modalities of Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol clients, CASSP Principals, human service agencies and their functions and a thorough understanding of the Mental Health Law
