The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of Safety and Security is looking for a Healthcare Security Specialist to ensure a secure and safe atmosphere for patients, visitors, and staff within the facilities and grounds of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
- Deliver outstanding customer service to patients, visitors, and staff entering the healthcare facility.
- Assist with navigation and provide information to patients, visitors, and staff.
- Conduct security inspections, patrol the premises, and oversee special assignments.
- Carry out incident investigations and provide documentation for follow-up actions.
- Respond to and assist in all matters concerning safety and security.
- Manage lock/unlock requests, troubleshoot elevator issues, and assist with traffic and parking enforcement.
- Address and resolve emergencies, including fire, HazMat, and security alarms.
- Provide surveillance of the institution, including psychiatric units.
- Maintain proficiency in computer systems to process data, operate fire alarm systems, and manage security systems.
- Escort individuals to parking areas and surrounding locations.
- Implement safekeeping protocols.
- Exhibit effective oral and written communication skills.
- Enforce all institutional policies and procedures.
- IAHSS Basic Online Course to be completed within 6 months of employment.
- Health Safety Professional (HSP) - to be completed within the first 90 days.
- Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) 8-hour training - to be completed within the first 90 days.

Pay Grade: 08
Starting Salary: $17.82/hour plus shift differential and potential overtime.

- Regular salaried position located in Iowa City, Iowa.

- Two years of experience in security and safety, fire safety, or law enforcement; or
- One year of post-high school education related to security and safety and one year of experience in security and safety; or
- Two years of post-high school education related to security and safety.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.
- Two years of customer service experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
