Position Summary:
The role of the Process Engineer is to provide specialized engineering expertise within a team-oriented setting to improve the safety, efficiency, reliability, and environmental performance of our nitrogen fertilizer production facilities. As the primary technical authority, you will collaborate with various engineering disciplines, operations, maintenance, and environmental health and safety teams to ensure that solutions align with the overall business goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a holistic system thinker by monitoring and analyzing operational performance metrics of process units and key variables that influence plant efficiency, capacity, catalyst performance, emissions, and safety protocols.
- Proactively assess process and equipment functionality to minimize operational disruptions and develop solutions for challenges related to process chemistry and equipment, including pumps, compressors, turbines, heat exchangers, and reactors.
- Enhance process performance through troubleshooting, modeling, data analysis, and providing technical support to the operations team.
- Conduct comprehensive process engineering evaluations and support collaborative design efforts for new installations and processes.
- Assist in prioritizing projects aimed at increasing production capacity, improving energy efficiency, and enhancing environmental health and safety outcomes.
- Prepare and review essential documentation such as process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), scopes of work, and equipment specifications to facilitate capital projects.
- Review and endorse new operational procedures and equipment operating limits, while also developing and delivering training for operational staff regarding significant changes and annual refreshers.
- Engage in management of change (MOC) processes, process hazard analyses (PHA), and incident investigations to identify and implement safety and environmental solutions.
- Support maintenance and operations during scheduled turnarounds by providing pre-turnaround engineering recommendations, assisting in planning specialized tasks, and coordinating catalyst replacements.
- Maintain strong communication and professional relationships with all departments and plant personnel.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution is required.
- A minimum of two years of experience in process engineering is necessary, preferably within the chemical manufacturing, refining, or oil and gas sectors.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for effective interaction with personnel across the organization.
- Willingness to gather field data, conduct inspections of process equipment, and perform routine field engineering tasks in a chemical facility environment.
- Flexibility to work alternative schedules on a short-term basis to support continuous operations, particularly during critical process unit activities.
