Job Summary:

This is a non-exempt position responsible for the USDA food service program for 10-60 children ages three through five, enrolled in the Head Start center. The successful candidate will oversee the kitchen, including food ordering, records production, safety, and sanitation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise cooking operations and kitchen staff.
  • Plan meals that are nutritious to children according to Head Start Food Service Criteria, performance standards, and USDA-CCFP and SPI requirements.
  • Order supplies for large groups of people.
  • Monitor and audit reports for compliance review.
  • Provide nutrition education to staff, students, and parents on a continual basis.
  • Incorporate cultural foods into the Food Service Program.
  • Perform various janitorial duties to ensure a safe and sanitary environment.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid State Driver's License and eligibility for the Tribes' Vehicle Insurance.
  • Clearance of an extensive Criminal History Background Inquiry.
  • Substance-free lifestyle for the last year and willingness to sign and adhere to the Tribes Substance Abuse Policy and the Head Start's Healthy Lifestyle Policy.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification within thirty (30) days of employment.
  • Food Handler's permit, TB Test, and Health Clearance within ten (10) days of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education/work experience demonstrating the ability to make mathematical computations accurately and keep routine written records.
  • Work experience reflecting the ability to cook and order supplies for large groups of people.
