About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled MRI Technologist to join our team at Advocate Health. As an MRI Technologist, you will be responsible for operating magnetic resonance imaging equipment to perform diagnostic procedures, obtaining medical history from patients, and preparing and administering contrast media under the direction of a Radiologist.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate MRI equipment to perform diagnostic procedures, including routine musculoskeletal, neurological, and orthopedic imaging, arthrogram, neurological angiography, body imaging, and small joint imaging.
  • Obtain medical history from patients, compare requisitions to physician's orders to ensure ordered exam accuracy, and prepare and administer contrast media under the direction of the Radiologist.
  • Position patients and select proper scanning factors, adjust factors to attain the appropriate images, and provide magnet protection and safety in accordance with regulatory agencies.
  • Post-process images as directed and accurately identify and label images, including patient name, medical record unit (MRU) number, and location or position of scan on all images.
  • Maintain records in accordance with various regulatory agencies and enter patient and study information into the radiology information system, and document billing codes of procedures performed to ensure accurate patient charges.
  • Identify equipment performance issues and perform equipment quality assurance tests and calibration procedures, and report malfunctioning equipment to appropriate staff.
Requirements
  • Registered Technologist (RT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) registration and certification issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) needs to be obtained within 2 years, or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) certification issued by the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT), or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) certification issued by the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT), and Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.
  • Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Radiologic Technology.
  • Minimum of 2 years MRI experience.
Working Conditions

The MRI Technologist will work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, and magnetic hazards, as well as blood and body fluids. Personal protective equipment must be worn as necessary. The MRI Technologist must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders frequently throughout the workday, and must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs. over the head, and carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
