Under the guidance of the Assistant Director or Center Director, the Head Teacher is tasked with executing the framework of Harbor Child Care and adhering to its educational philosophy, policies, and procedures, including but not limited to:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The Head Teacher is accountable for designing and implementing a program that addresses the educational, social, and health needs of both the group and individual children. Responsibilities include active supervision of the Associate Teacher, Assistant Teacher, Aides, and Substitute Teacher during all classroom activities, both indoors and outdoors. The Head Teacher must be physically capable of lifting and carrying children and engaging in age-appropriate activities for the class.
  • Creates a curriculum of developmentally suitable practices.
  • Adheres to Harbor's philosophy and policies, including health & safety, nutrition, and regulations as outlined in the Parent Policy, New Employee Welcome Manual, and Employee Handbook.
  • Effectively implements age-appropriate The Creative Curriculum.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding all information about parents, children, and staff.
  • Encourages and participates in outdoor activities.
  • Collaborates with all classroom staff and keeps them informed about meetings, events, and training.
  • Reports any issues regarding the supervision of classroom staff to the Assistant Director/Director.
  • Ensures supervision of children or designates appropriately qualified personnel in your absence, while also informing the Assistant Teacher/Director.
  • Supports and engages in active work time.
  • Collaborates with the Assistant Director/Director regarding children with special needs.
Record keeping

Parent Relations
  • Fosters positive relationships with parents by respecting the confidentiality of all information regarding parents and children.
  • Facilitates ongoing communication through daily notes, phone calls, etc.
  • Utilizes Contact Notes for staff and parent concerns.
  • Participates in parent/teacher meetings.
Self-Evaluation
  • Takes responsibility for discussing professional performance objectively during regularly scheduled supervisor conferences with the Education Coordinator or Program Director, using these meetings as a source of information and professional guidance.
Trainings/Meetings
  • Attends mandatory staff meetings, trainings, and workshops.
  • Participates in weekly planning meetings with the Education Director or Program Director.
Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED with CDA or AA/BA/MA in Early Childhood Education.

Experience working with children aged 3 to 18 months.

Availability required between 7 am and 6 pm. Shifts may vary.
