Job Title: Special Education Teacher

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assessment and Support: Conduct thorough assessments of students' developmental, cognitive, emotional, and social needs, and learning styles to identify areas of support.
  • IEP Development and Implementation: Develop, monitor, and report on Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) within established guidelines, ensuring that students receive tailored support and accommodations.
  • Case Management: Provide case management to identified Special Education students, including arranging and verifying IEP team meetings, issuing documentation, and maintaining related records.
  • Differentiated Instruction: Ensure that differentiated instruction, accommodations, modifications, and other IEP considerations are consistently implemented as outlined in the IEP.
  • Progress Monitoring: Complete IEP Progress Reports for each student to coincide with progress reports issued on a trimester basis.
  • Advocacy: Act as an advocate for all students to ensure that their needs are being met, and work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and administration to provide a supportive learning environment.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Evaluate student performance, share information with the classroom teacher, support teachers, and administration, and work in cooperation with classroom teachers to identify students who may be at risk academically and/or behaviorally.
Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
  • Certification: Pennsylvania Department of Education Certification in Special Education (7-12 or K-12).
  • Experience: International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme experience is a plus.
  • Skills: Strong research, planning, and organizational skills, as well as strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Software: Experience with MS Office.
