Class A Laborer

We are seeking a skilled Class A Laborer to join our team at VCI Construction. As a Laborer, you will play a critical role in the installation and maintenance of underground telecommunications cabling.

• Perform general labor duties related to telecommunications construction, including loading, driving, delivery, digging, removal, and placement of construction materials and equipment.
• Operate or work around heavy equipment and machinery, including backhoes, jackhammers, and trenchers.
• Install and maintain underground telecommunications cabling, including hand digging and using mechanical tools.
• Climb into and out of equipment, such as trucks, cars, and backhoes.
• Work in congested or remote areas, maintaining visual and audible contact with other crew members and moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination of movement.

• A valid Class A commercial driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to perform the above essential functions for a minimum of 8 hours each day, five days a week, with overtime, after-hours, on weekends, for emergencies, or on-call labor may be required.
• Ability to stand, crouch, sit, bend, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms to spaces both high and low.
• Ability to work while wearing safety boots, safety glasses, and a hard hat.
• Ability to work in adverse weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold temperatures, inclement weather, and adverse driving conditions.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. frequently and up to 100 lbs. as needed, with or without assistance.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
• Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment in a safe manner.
• Basic knowledge of and ability to hand tools and equipment in a safe manner.
• Ability to effectively communicate with customers, employees, etc.
• Regular and timely attendance is an essential function of this position.
• 6 months of experience in the utility construction industry.
• Ability to read prints and interpret utility maps to identify the type and size of underground utilities.
