Job Summary
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a skilled Roofing Apprentice to join our team. As a Roofing Apprentice, you will assist with and learn to become proficient in the performance of tasks in the installation and maintenance of commercial roofing systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the installation and maintenance of commercial roofing systems, including Standing Seam and other types of metal roofing, EPDM, TPO, and PVC.
- Work in the Building Trades Shop with carpentry, masonry, and paint projects as assigned.
- Perform tasks that require physical labor, including moving and handling heavy objects, climbing ladders and scaffolds, and working in extreme temperatures.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure successful project completion.
- Meet the requirements of a designated emergency personnel position, including working in all types of weather conditions and being available 24/7 for support during planned events or emergency situations.
Requirements
- Ability to take classes online and complete specified coursework independently and on schedule.
- Ability to safely and frequently move and handle heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds or more with assistance.
- Ability to communicate effectively, have good teamwork skills, and be able to understand, comprehend, and follow directions in the workplace.
- Ability to work in all types of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.
- Valid driver's license or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle daily.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a large commercial or educational setting.
- Good working knowledge of industrial roofing.
- Experience with TPO roofing systems.
