Nursing Supervisor Job Summary

The Nursing Supervisor plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient and cost-effective placement of patients into appropriate beds. This position requires strong leadership and management skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with medical directors, attendings, nurses, and ancillary support services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage bed requests and facilitate patient progression throughout the continuum of care
  • Maintain awareness of unit staffing and make adjustments to inpatient bed assignments and staffing allocations as needed
  • Provide administrative oversight for patient, physician, and nursing concerns
  • Exhibit critical leadership behaviors, including effective communication, problem solving, conflict resolution, and decision making
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN or higher) from an accredited school of nursing
  • Master of Science Degree in Nursing or related field (preferred)
  • Demonstrated leadership and management ability
  • Critical thinking skills and independent decision making
  • Knowledge of JCAHO/AHCA standards and the Florida Nurse Practice Act
  • Effective written and verbal interpersonal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of hospital policies and procedures
  • Competent conflict resolution and negotiation techniques
Required Licensure/Certifications:
  • Licensed to practice nursing in the state of Florida
  • BLS from the American Heart Association (required for all areas)
  • ACLS from the American Heart Association (required for ICU, Emergency Department, and Specialty areas)
Required Experience:
  • 1-2 years of management or demonstrated leadership experience
  • 3-5 years of medical surgical clinical experience
