Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled HVAC Technician to join our team at CAPPS, Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing entry-level heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) work, including the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Overhaul, remove, and replace, and/or repair air conditioning, heating, and ventilation equipment, including pumps, air compressors, steam and hot water boilers, DX systems, and pneumatically controlled devices.
  • Repair steam and hot water boilers, and all auxiliary steam and hot water equipment, including inspecting and maintaining proper steam pressure.
  • Install or remove and replace electrical control wiring and high voltage wiring within the equipment, sometimes while current is flowing.
  • Monitor and adjust direct-digital-control (DDC) software unique to each piece of HVAC equipment to allow computer monitoring and remote adjustments for comfort and precision cooling and heating.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance services on equipment, including cleaning coils and rod tubes, changing filters and belts, greasing bearings, changing motors, steam traps, and valves, piping connections, fittings, and couplings.
  • Test refrigeration equipment to determine if there are leaks and to locate and repair sources of recognized leaks.
  • Attend special training sessions, read manuals, and question vendor representatives to learn the technology, capabilities, and limitations of new types of controls.
  • Travel to remote Department facilities, work hours beyond and other than normal work hours, including holidays and weekends, and respond to off-hours call-ins to accomplish assigned projects and respond to emergency malfunctions on HVAC equipment and boilers.
  • May maintain records and prepare correspondence and reports related to work orders, repairs, installations, service, and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) compliance.
  • May coordinate parts and material requirements with supply room or warehouse.
  • May train others.
  • Attends work regularly and observes approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum two (2) years' full-time progressively responsible work experience operating, servicing, and repairing HVAC and boiler equipment in commercial or residential facilities.
  • Considerable knowledge of HVAC equipment and systems, and ability to diagnose malfunctioning units and perform maintenance on all types of HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
  • Skill in the use of analog and digital volt, ohm, and amp meters.
  • Skill in troubleshooting electrical systems, identifying components, and repairing, and in the use of hand tools, power tools, and special tools of the trade.
  • Knowledge of HVAC Refrigeration codes (Uniform Mechanical Code).
  • Ability to comply with TDLR laws and regulations as it pertains to steam and hot water boilers, as well as EPA standards as it applies to refrigerants.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in the tools and terms of the trade.
  • Skill in the use of Personal Computer (PC) to perform troubleshooting and changes to an Energy Management System (EMS) system.
  • Skill in working from blueprints and sketches.
  • Ability to estimate materials and labor on HVAC and refrigeration jobs.
  • Ability to exercise caution and prevent hazards.
  • Ability to safely operate hand and power tools.
  • Skill in the use of trade tools, including mechanical welding.
  • EPA 608 Type II or III or Universal certification required and/or obtained within six (6) months of employment.
  • ACR Contractor license through Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) (HVAC Class A or B License) preferred.
  • R410A Refrigerant certification required and/or obtained within six (6) months of employment.

Ability to speak, hear, and exercise visual acuity.

Hand-eye coordination and arm/hand/finger dexterity, including ability to utilize fine motor skills and grasp of testing equipment and small tools/objects.

High frequency and ability to travel to remote locations.
