Summary

The Health Sciences Division Director plays a pivotal role in executing Hagerstown Community College's (HCC) educational mission under the guidance of the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Services. This leadership position demands oversight and evaluation of faculty and staff within the division, ensuring alignment with established standards and performance expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Academic Leadership: Provide instructional guidance to the Health Sciences Division, including observing and evaluating faculty teaching practices. Oversee faculty development initiatives focused on curriculum design, instructional strategies, academic benchmarks, and student learning outcomes assessment.
  • Personnel Management: Supervise and evaluate the performance of faculty and staff within the division, ensuring adherence to college policies and procedures. Recommend promotions, salary adjustments, and disciplinary actions as appropriate.
  • Program Development and Accreditation: Develop and implement strategic plans for academic programs within the Health Sciences Division. Maintain accreditation standards by collaborating with relevant agencies and conducting internal reviews.
  • Resource Management: Allocate resources effectively to support academic programs, including equipment, materials, software, and professional development opportunities. Prepare budget proposals and monitor expenditures.
  • External Relations: Represent HCC in interactions with clinical agencies, state and local health committees, and professional organizations. Build partnerships to enhance program offerings and student learning experiences.

Qualifications

Candidates must possess a Master's Degree from an accredited institution in health administration or education, with a minimum of three years of experience in healthcare education. Preference will be given to candidates with two years of direct patient care experience in the health field. Dental program teaching or administrative experience is highly desirable.

Strong organizational, advising, and counseling skills are essential. Candidates should demonstrate effective communication abilities with students, faculty, staff, and administrators. Proven classroom and teaching skills are required, along with the ability to initiate, supervise, and evaluate programs, staff, and personnel.
