Job Responsibilities

As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for:

  • Being a First Responder
  • Using your training to perform rescues in and around the pool
  • Responding immediately to all situations that present the potential for injury
  • Keeping your skills fresh with Y Trainings and drills
  • Abiding by the Southeast Ventura County YMCA's Aquatics Policy and Program Standards
  • Educating all participants on the Pool Area Rules
  • Being a positive role model

Qualifications

To be eligible for this position, you must:

  • Be at least 16 years old
  • Be able to swim at the YMCA Lifeguard prerequisite or equivalent ability to swim 500 yards
  • Hold Lifeguard, CPR, AED & First Aid for the professional rescuer Certifications through the American Red Cross or other nationally recognized organization
  • Have knowledge in the principles and practices of effective Lifeguarding
  • Be able to interact positively with a diverse group of people
  • Have a clean criminal record clearance if over 18 years old
  • Be able to lift as required in normal rescue situations
  • Be able to see and hear to perform the essential functions of a lifeguard
  • Be able to see and rescue in an aquatic emergency no more than 20 seconds
  • Be able to sit, and walk while scanning the entire pool
  • Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness
