Job Title: Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

We are seeking a highly skilled Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to join our team at NYC Health + Hospitals. As a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, you will provide high-quality, team-based psychiatric services to individuals incarcerated in the New York City jail system.

About the Role

This is a unique opportunity to work in a correctional setting, providing safe, holistic, and evidence-based therapeutic interventions for individuals with mental health needs. You will work closely with multiple disciplines, including security staff, to provide comprehensive care to our patients.

Responsibilities
  • Provide psychiatric care, including admission evaluations, follow-ups, and urgent and emergent consultations to individuals with mental health needs
  • Participate in the creation of an individualized treatment plan after discussing the case with the mental health care team, collecting and reviewing psychosocial data, medical history, nursing assessment, and other pertinent information
  • Evaluate patients for the need for a higher level of care, including hospitalization, and escalate care as appropriate
  • Provide patient education, specifically around issues related to medications and treatment adherence, and aftercare services
  • Document all activities in the electronic medical record in a timely, concise, and clear manner
Requirements
  • A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse issued by the New York State Department of Education (NYSED)
  • Current certificate as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the NYSED
  • Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA)
