The Air Traffic Control Instructor will engage in a hands-on capacity, ensuring that training sessions are conducted with the utmost quality and consistency. The instructor will cater to a diverse group of learners, including both developmental air traffic controllers and Certified Professional Controllers (CPC).
The FAA's commitment to safety and professionalism in air traffic control is paramount. A well-trained workforce is essential to maintaining high safety standards in the National Airspace System (NAS), where over 50,000 aircraft are managed daily.
To meet these training requirements, the FAA relies on contractor-provided instructional services across various ATC facilities nationwide. The contractor's responsibilities encompass comprehensive training and program support, aimed at equipping students with the skills necessary to achieve full certification as air traffic controllers.
Essential Qualifications:
U.S. Citizenship is mandatory, along with the capability to secure and uphold a Public Trust clearance.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience as a FAA CPC controlling live air traffic, or recent experience as a contract instructor at an FAA facility is required. This experience must align with the same type and level of ATC facility.
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in current ATC automation, simulation systems, and operational procedures. Responsibilities will include mentoring students and Remote Pilot Operators (RPO), as well as contributing to curriculum design and development. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in obtaining radar and/or non-radar simulation laboratory certifications within FAA air traffic control facilities.
Educational Requirements:
- A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
- FAA Certified Professional Controller (CPC) certification is essential, with the ability to obtain and maintain Instructor II Simulation Laboratory Certification.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Direct experience as a Certified Professional Controller (CPC) at a major ARTCC is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Operational familiarity with ATC simulators, including scenario design for various simulation platforms.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with FAA personnel at all levels to ensure training services align with the needs of the facility and the FAA's overarching Air Traffic Control mission.
- Exemplary teaching and presentation skills, along with effective classroom management techniques and a commitment to continuous improvement in student outcomes.
