The United States House of Representatives seeks a highly skilled Archivist to join its Office of Art and Archives. As a key member of the team, you will provide expert guidance on records management and preservation of electronic records to committees, Members, and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Electronic Records Management: Provide expertise in records management and preservation of electronic records to House committee and Member offices.
- Accessioning and Tracking: Accessions and tracks records; processes, verifies, and describes records, including backlogged records.
- Transfer Coordination: Coordinates and manages transfers of records and creates related descriptive data; works with House and National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) colleagues to standardize and improve descriptive data.
- Access Control: Manages access to records; enforces access restrictions and policies.
- Training and Guidance: Advises Members, committees, and staff on records directives and provides guidance and instruction on records management best practices and archiving procedures.
- Policies and Procedures: Reviews, updates, and develops departmental policies, procedures, and manuals.
- Professional Development: Participates in institutional working groups and task forces related to electronic records and digital information.
- Customer Service: Provides customer service-oriented disposition and comfortable working with staff of varying levels of technological expertise and understanding of archives and records management.
- Confidentiality: Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the archival process.
- Team Collaboration: Understands and supports the services of the Office of Art and Archives, and the Office of the Clerk; works collaboratively with the House Archives team, Office of Art and Archives, and NARA.
- Performance and Attendance: Accepts performance-based coaching and direction; meets attendance requirements as established by the office, and works a schedule that may include long hours, nights, and weekends when necessary.
- Education: Master's degree in library or information science with a focus in archival management or at least five years archival experience.
- Skills: Ability to perform the major duties described above; temperament to communicate with a variety of personalities in a tactful, pleasant, and professional manner; willingness and demonstrated capacity to learn new approaches; high level of analytical, research, problem-solving, and organizational skill; ability to work as a member of a team performing shared duties; detail-oriented with strong writing and communication skills; ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in fulfillment of responsibilities.
- Physical Requirements: Must be computer proficient and be able to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
