Job Summary

The City of Leadville is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accountant I to join our Finance Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing various accounting functions, including financial statement preparation, budgeting, and financial analysis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee the bi-weekly payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
  • Perform daily cash receipts journal entries and reconcile cash receipts, accounts receivable, and other general ledger accounts.
  • Assist with accounts payable process, ensuring proper approvals and timely payment to vendors.
  • Manage W-9s, enter new vendors into the finance system, and file supporting documents as needed.
  • Reconcile monthly bank statements and other financial reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP standards.
  • Prepare and make bank deposits, compile daily receipts reports, and maintain accurate records of grants.
  • Assist with year-end close, including capital asset roll forward schedule, depreciation, and amortization.
  • Perform month-end processes, including journal entries and accounting workpapers, to ensure accurate reporting of monthly financials.
  • Review balance sheet activity and prepare month-end journal entries as necessary.
  • Provide communication of financial reporting deliveries to departments and ensure accurate records of grants.
  • Monitor grant revenues and expenses, performing monthly or quarterly grant reconciliations as needed.
  • Audit contracts, purchase orders, vouchers, and invoices for validity and proper recording in the general ledger and sub-ledgers.
  • Work closely with the Finance Director to ensure compliance with GAAP standards, address internal controls, and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare and review various financial reports and records, providing support in preparing and monitoring the budget.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and readily accessible files, regularly purging files in accordance with County and state policies on records retention.
  • Prepare annual 1099 tax reports and maintain current tax documents.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED, with two years' experience in accounting or bookkeeping, or any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently, with bi-lingual Spanish speaking skills preferred.
