Position Overview

This role is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), which offers a reimbursement program for student loan payments. To qualify, candidates must meet specific eligibility criteria as outlined by VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of their appointment.

Program Details: Approval for the program, including award amounts (up to $200,000) and eligibility periods (ranging from one to five years), will be determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office following a thorough review of the EDRP application.

Key Responsibilities: The incumbent must demonstrate extensive knowledge in clinical medicine, fundamental medical sciences, clinical laboratory sciences, and operational procedures. Candidates should have graduated from an accredited Board Certified/Board Eligible Primary Care Physician program and be capable of performing and instructing on all services pertinent to Primary Care Medicine, including but not limited to:

  • Providing leadership, management, and oversight of healthcare providers and programs that facilitate Primary Care delivery.
  • Collaborating in the formulation and upkeep of written policies and procedures that define operational standards for the Primary Care program.
  • Acting as the Primary Care subject matter expert and ensuring compliance with Primary Care and VHAFNC policies and procedures.
  • Engaging in the recruitment and selection process for new Primary Care staff, playing a significant role in the evaluation of candidates.

Consultation Services: The incumbent will be expected to provide consultations for patients and guide other physicians as necessary.

Compensation and Benefits: VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package, including:

  • Competitive salary with annual performance bonuses and regular salary increases.
  • Generous paid time off totaling 50-55 days per year, including 26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, and 11 paid Federal holidays.

Work Schedule: Standard hours are from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Requirements: Candidates must be U.S. citizens, with non-citizens only considered when qualified citizens cannot be recruited. All applicants may be subject to a urinalysis for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory, and participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is required for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).

Qualifications: To qualify, candidates must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional criteria specified in the job announcement. This includes holding a Doctor of Medicine degree or an equivalent qualification from an accredited institution, and possessing a current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in a U.S. state or territory.

Physical Requirements: The role requires moderate lifting (15-44 lbs), light lifting (under 15 lbs), and the ability to stand or walk for extended periods. Candidates must also meet specific vision and hearing standards.
