Fabricate, erect, and dismantle structural steel bridge framework according to engineered drawings and blueprints, performing such work consistent with corporate mission, values, and departmental financial objectives.
Key Responsibilities:- Set up hoisting equipment, raising and placing structural-steel members, with basic rigging knowledge for raising and placing structural steel members.
- Fasten steel members to the cable of hoist, using chain, cable, or rope.
- Signal worker operating hoisting equipment to lift and place steel members.
- Guide member, using tag line, to guide it into position.
- Pull, push, or pry steel members into approximate position while member is supported by hoisting device.
- Force members into final position, using turnbuckles, crowbars, jacks, and hand tools.
- Align boltholes in steel members using drift pins or spud wrenches.
- Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of members using plumb bob and level.
- Bolt align members to keep them in position until they can be permanently bolted or welded in place.
- Cut and weld steel members to make alterations using oxyacetylene welding equipment and supplies.
- Load, transport, unload material, tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Lift, position, and secure materials and work pieces during installation.
- Perform minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment.
- Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules, including wearing required personal safety equipment.
- Perform other duties as required.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Must possess basic reading and mathematical skills.
- Some mechanical skills normally obtained from experience with manufacturing or construction processes, including reading a tape measure and using power and hand tools.
The following working environments are as follows but not limited to:
Required to work near moving mechanical parts and machinery. Working conditions may include being outside or inside in all environmental conditions. Potential exposure to: fumes and airborne particulates. Potential risk of electric shock. Potential burn hazards such as: UV light radiation, open flames, sparks, and other sources. Noise levels in the work environment will require the use of appropriate hearing protection at all times. The correct usage of PPE will be required at all times.
