Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified Natural Science Learning Facilitator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in one or more disciplines, including Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Geology, Meteorology, or Physics, and will work effectively with other faculty and staff in a rapidly changing team environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach courses in the Natural Sciences at various locations, including the Corrections Education Program, and/or in an online format.
  • Develop and administer exams consistent with learning goals, including a final examination.
  • Provide remediation as deemed appropriate and possible.
  • Develop and distribute course syllabi for each course taught to each student.
  • Respond to requests of academic area and/or program leads, committee chairs, records office, etc. in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Consistently meet instructional schedule and other assignments and commitments in support of the college.
  • Establish and maintain regular and appropriate office hours.
  • Treat all members of the college community with dignity and respect.
  • Work through established channels to resolve problems.
  • Participate in activities designed to promote attainment of the college vision and its missions.
  • Participate in academic area and/or program planning and improvement activities as requested.
  • Attend Commencement and Convocation.
  • Formally document learning assessment efforts in a timely manner.
  • Learns and complies with all college policies.
  • Upholds and enforces the student code of conduct.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in any of the following, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Geography, Meteorology, Physics, or closely related field.
  • OR a Master's degree in any field with at least 18 graduate credit hours in Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Geography, Meteorology, Physics, or closely related field.
  • Must be able to secure a Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) clearance for a correction facility in which Jackson College operates and maintain that clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of teaching experience at a community college.
Language Skills

The successful candidate will have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents, respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints, and write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style.

Mathematical Skills

The candidate will have the ability to calculate figures and amounts, apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry, and deal with nonverbal symbolism in its most difficult phases.

Reasoning Ability

The successful candidate will have the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems, deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables, and understand the needs of others, be flexible, and maintain a high work ethic and level of integrity.

Work Environment

The work environment will be a college campus with occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions while traveling between buildings. The noise level in the work environment will be usually moderate.
