JOB TITLE: Certified Surgical Tech

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

As a Certified Surgical Technician at Surgery Partners, you will play a crucial role in assisting surgeons during various procedures. Your responsibilities will include maintaining a sterile environment, participating in infection control protocols, and ensuring that all necessary equipment, supplies, and instruments are ready for use. A strong emphasis on teamwork and the ability to thrive in a dynamic setting is essential. Experience in the operating room and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification are mandatory.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Prepare and maintain surgical instruments and medical equipment for operations.
  • Set up the operating room by establishing a sterile field, including arranging surgical instruments, sterile drapes, and solutions.
  • Adhere to state and federal regulations while providing patient care.
  • Conduct pre-procedure preparations on the patient's skin and body.
  • Perform safety checks on equipment and supplies before procedures commence.
  • Assemble both sterile and non-sterile equipment, ensuring proper functionality.
  • Assist in preparing patients for their procedures.
  • Transport patients to the surgical area as needed.
  • Help position patients on the operating table.
  • Drape patients appropriately according to the specific procedure.
  • Pass instruments and sterile supplies to surgeons and their assistants.
  • Retract tissues, cut sutures, and perform other tasks under the physician's supervision.
  • Participate in the counting of sponges, needles, and instruments based on the procedure type.
  • Assist in preparing specimens and managing their disposition.
  • Apply dressings post-procedure.
  • Help transfer patients from the procedure bed to the stretcher after operations.
  • Clean and restock the surgical area.
  • Gather supplies and instruments for upcoming procedures.
  • Support the maintenance of physician preference cards and inventory management.
  • Assist in the decontamination, cleaning, sterilization, and quality testing related to sterilization and high-level disinfection.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to patients.
  • Utilize effective communication channels.
  • Maintain positive interpersonal relationships with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare team members.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

Surgical technicians operate in clean, well-lit, and well-ventilated environments. The role requires standing for extended periods and maintaining alertness during procedures. There may be exposure to communicable diseases and other challenging conditions.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:
  • Completion of an accredited surgical technologist program.
  • CST certification or, depending on state regulations, eligibility for grandfathering without certification.
  • Preferred 1-2 years of clinical experience in an operating room setting.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support is required.
