Maintenance Mechanic Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic to join our team at BWI Companies. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, adjusting, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on trucks and trailers, as well as diesel engines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other critical components to ensure they are in proper working condition.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, battery checks, and lubrication of equipment and machinery.
  • Use hand tools and power tools, including pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists, to perform repairs and adjustments.
  • Adjust and replace brakes, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment as needed.
  • Perform routine repairs and inspections on tires, including mounting and dismounting tires for replacement or repair, and be accountable for tire rotation on power units and overall tire inventory.
  • Raise trucks, trailers, and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
  • Test drive trucks to diagnose malfunctions or ensure they are working properly.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.
  • Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.
  • Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
  • Attach test instruments to equipment and read dials and gauges to diagnose malfunctions.
  • Rewire ignition systems, lights, and instrument panels.
  • Repair and adjust seats, doors, and windows, and install and repair accessories.
  • Inspect, repair, and maintain automotive and mechanical equipment and machinery, such as pumps and compressors.
  • Familiarize yourself with and comply with DOT and BWI Vehicle Maintenance Guidelines.

To be eligible for this position, you must have a high school diploma (or equivalent) and one year of experience in a related field. We offer a competitive salary based on work experience and skills, with a minimum starting salary of $28 per hour.
