About the Role

Stantec is seeking a highly skilled Architectural Historian to join our team. As a key member of our cultural resources management team, you will be responsible for conducting historical and architectural research, preparing reports, and identifying historical buildings and sites for preservation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Historical Research and Preservation: Conduct thorough historical research, complete historic resource surveys, and evaluate the historic and architectural significance of properties under the National Register of Historic Places criteria.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare Historic American Building Survey (HABS)/ Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) documentation, technical reports, and inventory forms in compliance with NHPA regulations and state reporting standards.
  • Cultural Resources Management: Aid in preparing cultural resources sections of Environmental Impact Statements (EISs) and Environmental Assessments (EAs), and NHPA Section 106 Consultation Documentation.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Provide ongoing written and verbal coordination and consulting with team members and clients.
  • Proposal Development: Contribute to the development of proposals in all market sectors, including scoping and pricing architectural history work.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate in an integrated team with engineers, scientists, planners, regulators, and other stakeholders.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Education and Experience: Graduate degree in Architectural History, History, Historic Preservation, or a related field, and two+ years of professional consulting experience in cultural resources management or a related field.
  • Skills and Knowledge: Excellent knowledge of cultural resources and associated regulatory environment, especially for federal agencies. Experience working on Department of Defense installations is a plus. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Word and Excel, and Adobe Acrobat. Knowledge of NHPA, NEPA, and architectural terminology.
  • Travel and Field Work: Ability to frequently travel to field sites out of local area, and conduct field work as required. Field work may include exposure to the elements, including inclement weather.
