The Surgical Technologist Intern plays a vital role in the Medical Center Hospital's Surgical Service Areas, assisting in the nursing care and preparation of surgical patients. This position requires a strong understanding of AORN standards of care and the ability to work effectively as part of a sterile team.
Responsibilities- Assist in the preparation of surgical patients, ensuring a safe and efficient operating room environment.
- Don and maintain personal protective equipment, including gowns and gloves, to maintain a sterile field.
- Issue instruments to surgeons in accordance with AORN standards of care.
- Work under the supervision of a graduate of an accredited School of Surgical Technology, as required by Texas Surgical Technologist Law Sec 259.002.
- Consistently work towards graduation from a CAAHEP-accredited program while employed, with immediate notification of dismissal or withdrawal from the program.
- Maintain current BLS certification through the American Heart Association.
- Enrollment in a CAAHEP-accredited program for Surgical Technology.
- Maintenance of a 3.0 GPA in the program.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
