Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Medical Interpreter to join our team at Cabarrus Rowan Community Health Centers. As a Medical Interpreter, you will play a vital role in facilitating communication between patients and healthcare professionals, ensuring that our patients receive high-quality care regardless of their language proficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide accurate and timely interpretation services in a variety of clinical settings, including medical appointments, surgeries, and emergency situations.
  • Conduct phone interviews, coordinate appointments, and document relevant information under the direction of healthcare providers.
  • Travel to satellite offices, contractor offices, and community outreach centers as needed to provide interpretation services.
  • Interview patients to gather information on medical histories and patient complaints/concerns/questions, and translate information into English-written medical records.
  • Assist healthcare providers in educating patients on diseases, disease prevention, clinic procedures, immunization schedules, and health management.
  • Translate written health care materials, health education materials, and administrative forms from English into the patient's native language as requested.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities to monitor, measure, analyze, improve, and control program goals, objectives, and services.
Requirements
  • Fluent in English and the patient's native language, both in verbal and written communication.
  • Understanding of the patient's culture and ability to communicate in a culturally sensitive and confidential manner.
  • Minimum two years of experience as a professional healthcare interpreter.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology in English and the patient's native language.
  • Familiarity with basic computer operations and ability to communicate effectively with healthcare providers and patients.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of interview techniques and adult learning theory.
  • Familiarity with community resources for the target population, including refugee and immigrant social services.
