Staff Attorney

Dakota Plains Legal Services (DPLS), a non-profit legal services program, offers an exciting opportunity for a Staff Attorney in our Eagle Butte, South Dakota office. The office serves the counties of Dewey, Haakon, Hughes, Potter, Sully, Stanley and Ziebach along with the Cheyenne River Reservation.

This is a hybrid position, working both in-office and remotely, requiring a JD degree and licensure to practice law in South Dakota or ability to obtain it through reciprocity. Our ideal candidate will be a self-starter with tenacity, able to handle a significant caseload across various areas of law and make regular court appearances.

We offer a competitive starting salary of $70,000+ for attorneys with 2 or more years of experience. Additionally, DPLS provides a comprehensive fringe benefits package, including generous leave benefits, employer-paid insurance coverage, and a matching 401(k) plan. We observe a 34-hour, 4-day workweek.

The successful candidate will have:

• A JD degree and licensure to practice law in South Dakota or ability to obtain it through reciprocity
• An interest in poverty law and working with Native American and low-income clients
• The ability to assume immediate practice responsibilities and handle a significant caseload
