Staff Nurse

The University of Iowa Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery is seeking a skilled Staff Nurse to provide exceptional patient care in our tertiary care practice. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring top-quality service for our patients. Our department is nationally ranked by US News & World Report as one of the best hospitals for Ear, Nose, and Throat specialty.
The Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery is dedicated to delivering excellent medical care for patients with diseases and disorders of the head and neck. Our clinical mission is to provide exemplary clinical practice in the areas of medical and surgical care, including general otolaryngology, communicative disorders, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, head and neck oncology, laryngology, otology/neurotology, pediatric otolaryngology, and rhinology.
Responsibilities of the Staff Nurse include:
- Applying nursing theory to assess, diagnose, treat, and evaluate patient responses to health and illness
- Assessing patient healthcare preferences and expectations
- Assisting with pre-operative education for Otolaryngology surgical patient populations from Pediatrics to Adult
- Collaboratively coordinating the continuum of care across settings
- Assisting in clinic with MA & MD staff weekly clinics
- Assisting with minor procedures within clinic, minor room, and Surgicenter procedures
- Developing patient care plans based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions
- Assisting with telephone triage 1-2 times per week
- Implementing patient care plans according to patient priorities, documenting interventions and patient/family response
- Collaborating and integrating contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plans
- Developing, coordinating, and implementing transfer/discharge planning throughout the episode of care
- Implementing nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff

Required qualifications include:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members
- General computer skills
- Current license to practice nursing in Iowa
Desired qualifications include:
- Otolaryngology experience
- Certified in Specialty area within Ambulatory
