REPORTS TO: Director of Financial Services
STATUS: Full-Time/Non-Exempt/Permanent
COMPENSATION: $32.32 Per Hour, including paid medical insurance as well as paid time off (vacation, health, & holidays)
SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday; monthly Saturdays and occasional weekday evenings required
GENERAL SUMMARY: The Financial Coach plays a crucial role in guiding, coordinating, and facilitating the execution of housing and financial services initiatives. The key programs include Smart Money Financial Coaching and Lending Circles. Responsibilities encompass program design and assessment, offering personalized financial counseling, conducting financial literacy workshops, grant reporting, and collaborating with consultants alongside the Director of Financial Services to create and execute program activities.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Support all facets of the Center's financial services initiatives, including outreach, execution of program activities, evaluation, and administration.
• Deliver individualized services to program participants, including assessments, eligibility determinations, identifying immediate needs for financial services, and connecting them to suitable resources.
• Conduct personalized counseling sessions with participants, assessing their financial circumstances, aspirations, and requirements. Aid participants in crafting budgets and establishing financial objectives; generate written action plans that align with their goals.
• Inspire participants to execute their established plans and provide ongoing individualized support as necessary to help them achieve their defined goals and priorities; offer assistance and problem-solving for participant inquiries and case management.
• Provide information and referrals to participants regarding financial literacy topics, including bankruptcy, collection actions, court judgments, credit education, credit reports, housing matters, consumer protection laws, etc.
• Clarify credit report ratings and protection laws to participants and address their inquiries.
• Facilitate scheduling and logistical arrangements for intake appointments and orientation sessions, manage program applications and client data, and coordinate VITA volunteers.
• Assist in maintaining the department's HUD certification, which involves meticulous recordkeeping and client follow-up, along with supporting quarterly reporting obligations.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of initiatives that enhance the financial stability of participants, including projects that integrate other programs such as workforce development and small business initiatives (e.g., Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Lending Circles).
• Generate ideas and execute outreach and marketing strategies to boost overall awareness of services and recruit participants for specific workshops and programs.
• Oversee the recruitment, supervision, and training of program interns, volunteers, and consultants.
• Manage relationships with key funding partners, including but not limited to Open House, SF AIDS Foundation, PRC, the Mayor's Office of Housing, and corporate sponsors.
• Coordinate and lead monthly program workshops and financial literacy sessions.
• Build collaborative partnerships with other Center staff and community organizations.
• Represent the agency at various financial services and economic development meetings/events.
• Support all administrative functions of the Financial Services Program, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports containing program statistics and written narratives.
• Actively engage as a member of the Financial Services team, supporting program activities and general Center functions as appropriate.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
• Demonstrated cultural humility and commitment to serving the LGBTQ older adult population, individuals with disabilities, and the transgender community, along with familiarity with the diversity of transgender, lesbian, gay, and bisexual identities and experiences.
• A minimum of two years of experience in financial services, housing access, asset building, first-time homebuyer programs, or related experience enhancing the financial security of low to moderate-income individuals.
• Bilingual skills in Mandarin, Spanish, and/or Tagalog are highly desired. Fluency in English is required.
• Detail-oriented, diligent, and capable of completing documentation accurately and promptly.
• Excellent presentation abilities, including networking and public speaking or group facilitation.
• Strong communication and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Strong interpersonal skills; capable of working independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented environment; experience working in partnership with multiple agencies.
• Proficient in verbal and written communication.
• Computer literate in MS Office or similar applications, with an understanding of relational databases, internet navigation, and strong research skills.
• Innovative and entrepreneurial mindset, with a solution-oriented approach to complex challenges. Ability to adapt to changing environments and priorities.
• Commitment to the mission of the San Francisco LGBT Community Center and experience working in a multicultural setting.
• Must be able to thrive in a culturally diverse and fast-paced environment.
• Flexibility to work some evenings and/or weekends as needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position is primarily office-based with the potential for remote work up to 40% of the time (3 days in person, 2 days remote).
Essential Physical Requirements:
• Ability to operate a computer and other standard office equipment for up to eight hours daily.
• Capacity to remain in a stationary position for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to work in a shared office environment with moderate noise levels.
Employees in this role must satisfactorily perform these essential functions, and reasonable accommodations will be made for employees with disabilities as requested.
Hours are primarily Monday to Friday, with occasional evening or weekend work required. Work schedules are negotiable within a standard 8:00 am to 7:00 pm window. Local travel may be necessary for meetings or offsite events. Out-of-town travel is infrequent and negotiable. A car is not required.
