Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development of tutoring and SLA materials, ensuring they are engaging and effective in promoting student success.
  • Review relevant study skills materials and content software, making recommendations for purchase to support student learning.

  • Assist with SLA and tutor timecards and salaries for accuracy, ensuring compliance with university policies.
  • Respond promptly to student, staff, and faculty inquiries, providing excellent customer service.
  • Promote student success through various means, including individual and group meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
Essential Duties
  • Meet with students individually or in small groups to facilitate study skills and other retention activities, tailoring support to meet their unique needs.
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, faculty, and visitors, fostering a positive and inclusive environment.
  • Assist with facilitating tutor and SLA training, workshops, and staff meetings, ensuring a cohesive and supportive team.
  • Attend training, workshops, and staff meetings as requested, staying up-to-date on best practices and university initiatives.
  • Enter data and other information into statistics and tutoring databases, maintaining accurate records.
  • Be familiar and proficient with Center computer software, hardware, and other technology, providing technical support as needed.
  • Assist in the development of tutoring and SLA materials, technologies, and reports, ensuring they meet the needs of students and faculty.
  • In the absence of the Supervisor, supervise, monitor, and manage the activities of tutors, office assistants, and SLA facilitators, ensuring a smooth and efficient operation.
  • Stay abreast of best practices and trends in tutoring and academic support programs, applying this knowledge to inform program initiatives.
  • Complete projects as requested by the Supervisor, demonstrating a commitment to excellence and student success.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment, with a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Manage appointment books, scheduling and canceling appointments as needed, ensuring efficient use of time.
  • Assist with the selection and recruitment of tutors and SLA facilitators, ensuring a diverse and qualified pool of candidates.
  • Enter tutoring appointments into statistics databases, maintaining accurate records.
  • Be familiar with Center computer software programs, assisting tutors and students with using these tools.
  • Develop and facilitate workshops on strategies such as memory skills, note-taking, studying, textbook reading, time management, and test-taking skills, promoting student success.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, particularly in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Requirements
  • Associate Degree in Education, Psychology, Computer Science, Liberal Arts, Social Science, Statistics, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • One or more years of experience or comparable work-related experience in an educational setting, preferably in a tutoring or academic support role.
  • Strong technology skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, with the ability to learn new software and systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, with a strong preference for those with experience in tutoring or academic support.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of student retention issues and awareness of FERPA and ethical principles when working with college students.
