This position plays a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of our facilities. As a Head Custodian, you will oversee and coordinate the custodial activities of the facility, ensuring a clean and well-maintained environment. This role involves managing a team of custodians, developing cleaning schedules, and ensuring that all areas of the facility are maintained to high standards.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and support the evening crew of part-time custodians.
- Assign tasks evenly and appropriately among custodial crew.
- Oversee daily cleaning operations, including floors, restrooms, offices, common areas, and all other facility spaces.
- Monitor exterior areas by frequently assisting with trash debris pick-up and changing trash liners.
- Ensure that cleaning protocols and standards are being followed consistently.
- Monitor inventory levels of custodial supplies and equipment and make recommendations for ordering and purchases.
- Inspect and maintain assigned custodial equipment and small tools for proper operating conditions.
- Perform regular facility inspections to identify areas requiring attention or improvement.
- Collaborate with departments to coordinate special projects, events, or maintenance activities.
- Respond to requests for additional cleaning services or support.
- Maintain accurate records of cleaning activities, supply usage, and equipment maintenance.
- Conduct essential security functions to lock/unlock and inspect facilities as needed.
- Address any complaints or concerns from facility occupants regarding cleanliness and maintenance.
- Assist in developing and implementing action plans to address identified issues.
- Provide excellent customer service and resolve issues promptly.
- Respond to and manage custodial-related emergencies, such as spills or damage, to minimize disruption and ensure safety.
- Primarily indoors, with occasional exposure to outdoor conditions.
- Typical working hours will consist of evenings 2:30pm-10pm, but may vary depending on the facility's needs, including some weekends and holidays.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout the facility.
- Must have the ability to lift and carry heavy objects, such as cleaning equipment, bags of cleaning supplies, and waste containers, often weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling to clean low-lying areas and pick up trash.
- Ability to reach above shoulder height to clean windows, walls, and other high surfaces, as well as stretch to access hard-to-reach areas.
- Strength to push and pull cleaning equipment, such as vacuums, floor buffers, and carts, across various surfaces.
- Awareness of and ability to follow safety procedures to prevent accidents or injuries, including the proper handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- While performing the duties of the job, the employee may be required to attend a variety of meetings, activities, and events held at all MRD locations, as well as check in or follow up with custodial staff and duties at all MRD facilities.
- Efficient and adequate transportation to and from all MRD facilities is required.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training or certifications in custodial services or facility management is a plus.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in custodial or facilities management, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong leadership and management skills, including the ability to motivate and direct a team.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Proficiency in using cleaning equipment and understanding of cleaning chemicals and procedures.
