Operating Room Nurse Opportunity

UPMC Hamot's Operating Room is seeking a skilled and compassionate Operating Room Nurse to join their team in the Weekend Program. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment, providing high-quality care to patients undergoing various surgical procedures.

The successful candidate will work 48 weekends per year, with shifts spanning from 7 pm on Friday to 7 am on Monday. Additionally, they will be scheduled to work holidays that fall on weekends. A 25% differential on top of the base rate will be applied for participating in the Weekend Program, which only applies to weekend shifts.

The Operating Room at UPMC Hamot is a 17-suite facility that offers a wide range of specialties, including robotics, kidney transplants, trauma, and more. Our team provides high-quality care for both elective and urgent patients, from infants to geriatrics. You will have the opportunity to work with world-class surgeons and anesthesiologists from across the country.

The final job title and rate of pay will be based on both individual qualifications and candidate choice. Any required certifications and contributions based on job title will be afforded a timeframe to obtain.

Previous OR experience is required. Job title and salary will be determined based on qualifications and career ladder requirements.

Responsibilities

The Operating Room Nurse will be responsible for:

  • Providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment
  • Collaborating with healthcare providers, patients, and families to achieve the best outcomes
  • Setting care standards and managing patient care
  • Teaching patients, families, students, and new staff
  • Providing clear guidance to help patients transition through different care levels
  • Supporting the development of new staff and colleagues
  • Engaging in quality improvement efforts
  • Identifying and acting on opportunities to enhance patient care and satisfaction

The Operating Room Nurse will also be responsible for performing scrub duties if hired on or after July 1, 2023.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in the state where the facility is located or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement
  • CPR certification based on AHA standards, including both didactic and skills demonstration, within 30 days of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification
  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Temporary Practice Permit (TPP)
  • Act 33 with renewal, Act 34 with renewal, Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
