Experienced Registered Nurse RN Emergency Department

Lancaster General Hospital, a Level I-accredited Trauma Center, has undergone a significant expansion and remodel of the Emergency Department, nearly doubling its size from 63 beds to 95 beds. This includes 10 beds in our updated and expanded behavioral health unit and 13 dedicated pediatric beds. Our Emergency Department treats 300 to 400 patients daily, ruling out life-threatening conditions and intervening when necessary to stop the progression of acute processes. We see a wide range of cases, from sore throats and ear infections to more serious conditions like stroke, heart attack, cardiac arrest, and traumatic injuries.

Hours: Full-time (36 hours a week), evening shift (12-hour shifts between 11am-3am), rotating weekends and holidays, on-call requirements
Sign-on Bonus: Up to $15,000 (prorated based on FTE), with a 2-year commitment. Eligibility rules apply, including 15+ months of RN experience. External applicants only.
As a Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague, you will assume responsibility and accountability as defined by the American Nurses Association standards of nursing practice. You will practice as a full partner on the healthcare team and consistently demonstrate safe practice within the organizational professional practice model. You will possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude to effectively meet standards for competent professional nursing practice and exhibit Penn Medicine's experience standards, which reflect its mission and are embedded in the professional practice competency domains.
You will independently provide patient care through the application of the nursing process and accept accountability for the nursing care of assigned patients. Assigned patients may range in age from infancy to the elderly. You will work closely with the interprofessional healthcare team to facilitate the coordination of care across the continuum and focus on expanding your knowledge and skills necessary to provide individualized care based on physical, psychosocial, cultural, educational, safety, and age-appropriate considerations of assigned patients.
You will seek feedback in assuming leadership roles and provide feedback for improved clinical practice. You will demonstrate how nursing practice impacts the organizational vision, mission, and goals and the care delivery system. You will comply with all regulations and standards of regulatory and accrediting bodies.
Essential Functions- Incorporate the Lancaster General Health mission, vision, and values into planning patient care.
- Function as an independent and interdependent member of the healthcare team as defined in the unit-based Plan for Provision of Care.
- Perform patient assessments, focusing on physiologic, psychological, and cognitive functions. Evaluate progress toward attainment of outcomes and adapt the plan of care based on recognized trends and changes.
- Analyze the assessment data to determine the diagnosis or issues. Formulate age-appropriate and culturally and ethically sensitive plans of care.
- Implement care in a knowledgeable manner and coordinate patient care across several disciplines and among caregivers.
- Provide leadership to other members of the team by effectively communicating expected standards of care and encouraging and supporting team members and their contributions.
- Demonstrate an understanding of and a commitment to our values of privacy, quality, respect, service, and teamwork.
- Assign, delegate, and supervise other employees and intervene as appropriate to assure that the plan of care is carried out, continuity of care is provided, and established outcomes are achieved through availability and appropriate utilization of human, material, and financial resources.
- Educate patients about healthy practices and treatment modalities.
- Systematically enhance the quality and effectiveness of nursing practices. Utilize technology where appropriate.
- Consider factors related to safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact on practice in the planning and delivery of nursing services.
- Manage rapidly changing situations following established protocols, coordinating and accessing appropriate health team members and resources, and documenting events.
- Participate in process improvement activities with an emphasis on increasing continuity in the nurse-to-patient relationship, minimizing rework and redundancies; constantly seek ways to improve processes, increase efficiency, find solutions to current situations or develop new methods and procedures.
- Complete mandatory education and training that includes review of age-specific needs, caring behaviors, and interpersonal skills as defined by the unit-based Plan for Provision of Care.
- Maintain a safe working environment through compliance with established evidence-based practice policies and procedures and timely reporting of safety variances.
- Project pride in their work as exhibited in day-to-day interactions with staff, coworkers, patients, and all those they come in contact with.
- Seek experiences and formal and independent learning activities to maintain and develop clinical and professional skills and knowledge.
- Provide supervision, including guidance, counseling, and mentoring, to targeted peers and subordinates to enhance the learning experiences and improve the professional practice environment within the designated work setting.
- Participate in the employee performance process related to peers and subordinate team members; address employee problems, complaints, disputes, or requests as the first level of supervision; evaluate their performance post-hire.
- Participate in the on-call responsibilities for this position as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- RN licensure is required, issued by the PA Board of Nursing.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher-level nursing degree is required.
- Completion of the Nurse Residency Program or more than 15 months of practice.
- CPR Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support, formerly Healthcare Provider (AHA Heart Saver courses for CPR are not accepted) required within 30 days of hire.
- ACLS Certification
- A healthcare provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal and state health insurance programs, i.e., not excluded from participation in Medicare, Medicaid, or any other federal or state health insurance program.
