About the Position

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Regional Rivers Repair Fleet is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to fill an Intern position as a Maintenance Worker. This role is designed to prepare student trainees for employment after graduation and provide them with hands-on experience in various crafts and trades.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on equipment, including carpentry, electrical, painting, plumbing, and grounds maintenance.
  • Assist higher graded employees in the operation of flood control equipment.
  • Develop and implement plans to improve maintenance efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve project goals and objectives.
Requirements
  • Current students pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate in an accredited high school, college, or professional school.
  • Must be able to work in the physical location advertised while attending/enrolled in school.
  • Must be able to work (i.e. summers, fall and spring breaks, etc.) when not attending classes.
  • Must have completed one full academic year of post-high school study.
Qualifications
  • Grade Point Average: 2.0 or higher.
  • Learning: Ability to learn and apply new skills and knowledge.
  • Likelihood of Success: Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Interest, Motivation, and Readiness: Ability to perform simple work and take on additional responsibilities.
  • Education: Directly related to the duties of this position, such as electrical, carpentry, masonry, and plumbing programs.
Additional Information

Interns must complete at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program prior to or concurrent with completion of academic requirements. They must also meet the Office of Personnel Management's qualification standard, including any applicable positive education requirement and/or selective placement factors and any other special qualifications requirements and conditions of employment.
