Position Summary
Under the guidance of the Director of Transportation, the School Bus Operator is responsible for driving a school bus along designated routes to safely transport students and perform related duties as necessary.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience: Equivalent to the completion of high school.
Licenses and Certifications: Must hold and maintain a valid State of California Class B driver's license and a California School Bus Driver Certificate. Additionally, a valid First Aid and CPR certificate or endorsement from the California Highway Patrol must be obtained within six months of employment.

Physical Requirements:
Physical abilities necessary for this role include the typical methods of performing job functions, which may involve occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching; reaching, handling, and feeling; and manual dexterity to operate a bus, climb steps, and reach overhead. Candidates must demonstrate the strength and mobility to lift 50 pounds from the floor and arm lift 50 pounds during an employee entrance evaluation.
Significant physical abilities include the capacity to sit for extended periods in various settings, see and read laws, codes, and policies, comprehend spoken communication, and articulate clearly in normal conversations and over the sounds encountered while operating the bus.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Criminal Background Check
  • Recent TB Test
  • Completion of district Mandated Reporter training and Sexual Harassment training
  • First Aid/CPR Certification (In-Person Training Only)
  • Pre-Employment Physical Evaluation (Minimum 50 pounds)
