Job Summary:This Behavior Assistant position will serve students ranging from K-12th grade who experience social, emotional, and behavioral-learning needs.
Key Responsibilities:- Prepare instructional and behavioral materials to facilitate student learning and performance.
- Assist students using behavioral strategies to teach appropriate social behaviors in accordance with student learning goals.
- Utilize de-escalation and crisis minimization techniques to maintain student and colleague safety.
- Collaborate with lead behavior support facilitators, behavior consultants, teachers, and school administrators to support student development and growth.
- Communicate with teachers and staff regarding student progress and develop student-specific behavior interventions.
- Implement and model alternative communication strategies with students, such as assistive technology.
- Participate in training to learn new skills relevant to working with students with disabilities.
- Perform various clerical duties to support the educational program and classroom requirements.
- Minimum requirement of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years experience working with children, adolescents, and/or young adults with behavioral and mental health challenges.
- Safety care training required.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification required.
- Experience in positive behavior support strategies preferred.
- Completion of post-secondary courses in Psychology, Child Development, Special Education, Behavioral Health, or related field preferred.
- Valid driver's license, vehicle available for use on the job, and accompanying automobile insurance.
- Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging through continuous development and modeling inclusive behaviors.
- Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and organizational skills.
- Ability to exhibit professionalism and effective human relations.
- Confer regularly with supervisor and/or designee.
- Skillfully utilize educational technology and software as required by the position.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by participating in professional development activities.
