Job Summary:

This Behavior Assistant position will serve students ranging from K-12th grade who experience social, emotional, and behavioral-learning needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare instructional and behavioral materials to facilitate student learning and performance.
  • Assist students using behavioral strategies to teach appropriate social behaviors in accordance with student learning goals.
  • Utilize de-escalation and crisis minimization techniques to maintain student and colleague safety.
  • Collaborate with lead behavior support facilitators, behavior consultants, teachers, and school administrators to support student development and growth.
  • Communicate with teachers and staff regarding student progress and develop student-specific behavior interventions.
  • Implement and model alternative communication strategies with students, such as assistive technology.
  • Participate in training to learn new skills relevant to working with students with disabilities.
  • Perform various clerical duties to support the educational program and classroom requirements.
Requirements:
  • Minimum requirement of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience working with children, adolescents, and/or young adults with behavioral and mental health challenges.
  • Safety care training required.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification required.
  • Experience in positive behavior support strategies preferred.
  • Completion of post-secondary courses in Psychology, Child Development, Special Education, Behavioral Health, or related field preferred.
  • Valid driver's license, vehicle available for use on the job, and accompanying automobile insurance.

  • Ability to exhibit professionalism and effective human relations.
  • Confer regularly with supervisor and/or designee.
