We are seeking skilled Diagnostic Imaging Specialists to provide exceptional diagnostic imaging services to our veteran population. The successful candidates will operate ultrasound equipment, perform a variety of diagnostic exams, and uphold high standards of patient care and equipment maintenance.
Responsibilities will include conducting a range of ultrasound exams and procedures, such as venous Doppler, vein mapping, arterial duplex, and more.
Duties may vary according to the needs of the shift, along with miscellaneous duties as assigned.Requirements:
Minimum of 2 years of recent experience as a Registered Ultrasound Technologist in a hospital setting, including experience in inpatient units, emergency departments (ED), and intensive care units (ICU)
Proven ability to independently perform routine and complex ultrasound exams, including vascular studies and intra-operative procedures
Performs routine housekeeping duties to ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of the ultrasound area
Facilitates shadowing and training for new and existing staff on ultrasound procedures and protocols
Evaluates and recommends new procedures to improve the operation of the ultrasound section
Stays current with advancements in ultrasound technology and protocols
Actively participates in teamwork and communicates effectively with co-workers and other services to ensure timely patient care
Perform specialized ultrasound examinations including intra-operative assessments, upper and lower extremity venous Doppler, vein mapping, carotid Doppler, arterial duplex, renal artery Doppler, liver Doppler, P-TIPS assessment, pseudoaneurysm assessment, aorta endograft leak assessment, and AV fistula Doppler
Maximize patient throughput by coordinating with escorts, ward secretaries, and nursing personnel. Explain procedures, answer questions, and attend to patient comfort throughout the process. Distribute ultrasound examinations and related information to radiologists for timely diagnosis and treatment
Perform computer work and complete required forms associated with patient exams, including crediting patient visits and documenting complications or quality improvement activities.
Maintain neat and clean work areas, ensure supplies are stocked, and assist in inventory managementObtain pertinent clinical data from the patient, electronic health record, requisitions, and interviews. Properly select patient information from the HIS/RIS list, verify details before scanning, and ensure correct image annotations and configurations before transmitting to PACS
Interpret requests or instructions from radiologists or medical officers, and independently carry out their requests. Prepare the room, equipment, and materials needed for patient procedures. Verify patient identity using two unique identifiers and follow VHA directives and policies. Ensure patient ID bands and requests are identical
Explain procedures to patients in a manner that gains cooperation, understanding, and alleviates apprehension. Transfer patients from stretchers or wheelchairs to the sonographer exam table using safe patient handling techniques. Position patients appropriately for desired results using positioning cushions and privacy shields as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or an equivalent credentialing body which the ARDMS recognizes
Evidence of ongoing professional development through continuing education and in-service programs
