Position Overview

The Engineering Lab Manager will oversee a team of skilled technicians in a laboratory setting, supporting the Engineering Department within Leviton's Residential Business Unit. This role is pivotal in managing daily lab operations, facilitating product functional assessments, assisting design engineers, maintaining lab equipment, and overseeing product assembly.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and allocate tasks among technical staff to meet the diverse requirements of the engineering department. Typical lab activities include:
    • Assembling prototype printed circuit boards and finished product prototypes.
    • Conducting product functional assessments, including verification, application testing, software regression testing, and interoperability checks.
    • Performing HALT (Highly Accelerated Life Testing) and HASS (Highly Accelerated Stress Screening).
  • Manage priorities and ensure efficient workflow. Identify and address bottlenecks that hinder task completion.
  • Enhance testing methodologies and equipment for precision, consistency, and efficiency.
  • Identify and implement improvements to enhance test reliability, minimize testing duration, or reduce labor through automation.
  • Design and develop testing fixtures.
  • Maintain the engineering lab, including equipment repair, calibration, inventory management, and organization.
  • Serve as an expert in the operation of all lab equipment and testing methodologies.
  • Create procedures for new product testing.
  • Assist engineers in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and replicating product failures.
  • Oversee the operation of a HALT chamber.
Qualifications
  • Proficient in interpreting test results, conducting data analysis, and generating written reports.
  • Experienced in operating laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, frequency generators, and network analyzers.
  • Knowledgeable in laboratory safety protocols, testing methodologies, and measurement accuracy.
  • Familiarity with Schematic Capture and PCB layout; Altium experience is advantageous.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and technical specifications.
  • Skilled in using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, capable of engaging with all management levels.
  • Adept at creating technical and procedural documentation.
Education & Experience
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in electronics or electrical engineering technology.
  • Experience with electronic laboratory equipment.
  • Background in product development testing.
  • Experience with automated testing processes.
  • Over five years of experience in a product development setting.
Travel Requirements
  • Minimal travel (approximately 3%).

Compensation

Salary range: $90,000 - $110,000 per year.
