Job Overview:Under the guidance of the Faculty Director of the Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC), the Taxpayer Staff Attorney is responsible for providing legal representation in matters involving administrative disputes with the IRS, litigation in Tax Court and Federal courts, and offering taxpayer education and advocacy for LITC clients. This role involves collaboration with clinic faculty, paralegals, staff, and students to deliver comprehensive legal services.
The LITC Staff Attorney will also participate in outreach initiatives and client development efforts, focusing on taxpayer education for underserved communities.
Qualifications:Required: Juris Doctorate degree and a minimum of two years of relevant legal experience. Must be a member in good standing of the South Carolina bar and eligible for admission to practice before the U.S. Tax Court.
Preferred: At least three years of practical experience in tax law, demonstrating sufficient expertise to manage client representation in disputes with the IRS. A commitment to public service and involvement in relevant extracurricular activities is desirable.
Skills and Abilities:- Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills.
- Extensive legal experience in tax controversy and related fields.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with law school faculty, staff, and students.
- Commitment to assisting taxpayers in need of clinical support.
