Job Summary

The Occupational Therapist will lead the development, implementation, and coordination of the occupational therapy process for students with disabilities. This includes screening, evaluation, educational program development, transition planning, therapeutic intervention, and exit planning.

The Occupational Therapist will work independently to review outcomes and modify intervention programs as needed. They will also collaborate with other team members to ensure that programs are suitable for students' needs and capabilities.

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor or Master of Occupational Therapy from an accredited college or university and a current license from the State of Michigan.

Key Responsibilities
  • Test and evaluate students' physical and mental abilities
  • Select manual arts, crafts, homemaking, daily living skills, recreation, pre-vocational, and neuro-developmental activities to fit students' needs and capabilities
  • Consult with other team members to confirm that programs are suitable
  • Teach skills and techniques needed to do the activities
  • Prepare materials for student use
  • Evaluate student progress, attitudes, and behavior
  • Prepare/complete student progress reports
  • Complete all paperwork necessary to secure occupational therapy services
  • Lecture to various professionals, students, and community groups on occupational therapy
Requirements
  • Possession of a Bachelor or Master of Occupational Therapy from an accredited college or university
  • Current license from the State of Michigan
Security Clearance

Internal applicants do not need to submit to a new security clearance, unless their new role requires a different type of criminal background check. External applicants will be required to submit to a Detroit Public Schools Community District criminal background check in alignment with Michigan law.
