JOB SUMMARY: This role assists the transportation manager/director in overseeing the operations related to deliveries and backhauls. Responsibilities include training and managing transportation department personnel, ensuring compliance with governmental regulations, and fostering a safe and secure environment within the transportation sector.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises daily operations and safety protocols for transportation staff, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures and food safety standards.
- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies (i.e., DOT, OSHA) and maintains accurate electronic logs.
- Monitors labor hours and consumable supplies, ensuring operations remain within budget.
- Creates work schedules, including additional workdays and shifts as necessary.
- Assists in training new employees and cross-training existing staff.
- Directs the appropriate selection and use of company resources to support the delivery department.
- Coordinates necessary repairs with relevant departments.
- Reviews delivery processes and productivity reports; recommends efficiency improvements and cost-saving measures.
- Interprets, trains, and enforces company policies, protocols, and procedures, including food safety and record-keeping.
- Collaborates with warehouse and customer service teams to resolve delivery issues.
- Visits customer locations to address concerns and evaluate delivery challenges.
- Maintains positive employee relations through regular meetings and open communication.
- Monitors employee morale and encourages engagement through feedback and suggestions.
- Works with the safety manager to conduct training and safety inspections.
- Recommends corrective actions and behavior modifications as necessary.
- Handles management functions such as staff selection, development, performance reviews, and terminations.
- Adheres to assigned schedules, demonstrating regular attendance and flexibility to work outside of normal hours as needed.
- Performs duties of supervised associates and other related tasks as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent; a 2 or 4-year degree in business management, supply chain management, or a related field is preferred.
Experience: 2-4 years of experience in transportation or related training.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations: Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License is required; DOT regulations training certification is preferred.
Professional Skills: Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, DOT rules, and standard operating procedures; proficiency in spreadsheet and word processing software. Ability to make independent decisions in line with company policies, engage effectively in discussions, solve practical problems, and apply relevant policies consistently.
Ability to work in a disciplined manner, manage stress in deadline-oriented environments, and learn company-specific technology software. Proficient in reading, comprehending, writing, and speaking English, as well as performing basic mathematical operations.
